About This Organization

The Economic Development Department is responsible for business retention, business expansion, business attraction, the investment climate, and real estate services. The department facilitates the growth of a diversified local economy and works to expand the City’s tax and employment base in order to preserve the community’s high standard of living.

The Economic Development Office:

  • Provides advice to businesses and industries looking to establish, expand or relocate in the City of Abbotsford; and guidance to elected officials and senior management on issues affecting economic growth
  • Promotes business development and encourages a business friendly environment
  • Manages select contacts and contracts with stakeholder groups, such as Abbotsford International Airport, Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce, Abbotsford Downtown Business Association, University of the Fraser Valley, Tourism Abbotsford and the development industry
  • Works with Tourism Abbotsford, other stakeholders, and other City departments to promote tourism and operate Tradex
  • Pursues and coordinates revenue opportunities that reduce the City’s dependence on general taxation
  • Prepares, coordinates, and implements long-term economic development plans and policy development in the City
