Healthy Workplaces - Canadian Cancer Society

About This Organization

Two in 5 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer this year alone and given that the average Canadian spends 60% of their waking hours on the job, the workplace becomes an ideal setting for healthy lifestyle education. This creates a mutually beneficial relationship between businesses looking to improve their bottom line and the health of their employees and the Canadian Cancer Society’s mission of eradicating cancers.

From 2012-2017, the Canadian Cancer Society, BC & Yukon Division (CCS) and the BC Ministry of Health entered into a partnership to work together to support employers and employees in developing healthy workplaces. The resulting program was titled WellnessFits. WellnessFits was a free workplace wellness program which took an evidence-based approach to health and wellness and provided one-on-one consultation for British Columbian employers looking to create a healthier work environment for their employees. As a result of this program and its many teachings, the CCS has developed this Healthy Workplaces website to provide continued direction and support for businesses looking to create healthier, more productive workplaces.
