Business Research Resources for UBC Alumni

As alumni, UBC graduates have access to a rich source of business information by getting and registering their UBC Alumni A-card, which grants them access to Business Source Alumni Edition. If you are thinking of starting your own business and have obtained a degree from a UBC campus, consider the following to help you with your business research. Databases

There are two main EBSCO databases that are accessible with the A-card: Academic Search and Business Search. For purposes of business research, choose only to search within the Business Search database to keep the search results precise.

Highlighted publications

When you search within Business Search, you are actually searching among many different publications. Here is a highlighted list of the many publications that are available as full text:

Marketing Insights [formerly Marketing Research]

Published by the American Marketing Association, this publication gives an authoritative look at marketing trends.

Business Credit

Published by the National Association of Credit Management, Inc. and contains articles, commentary, interviews, legal notices and timely news of note for professionals in credit and finance, especially manufacturers, wholesalers, financial institutions and service organizations.

Journal of Small Business Management

Published by Wiley-Blackwell and contains articles, notes and other features on subjects of current professional interest in the fields of small business management and entrepreneurship aimed at small business readers and their advisors.

Entrepreneurship: Theory & Practice

Published by Wiley-Blackwell and contains current research, educational techniques, features on government policy, book reviews and announcements for members of the US Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship.

MarketLine Industry Profiles

MarketLine, a UK-based company, offers industry profiles that target specific geographic locations, which is helpful for those working within Canada but also for those businesses looking to expand into new international markets.

Highlighted features

There are many search filters that can help you target your search to get the information you want, without sifting through a ton of results.

Source type: Choose “industry profile” or “SWOT analysis” to learn about specific industries and companies.

Geography: Choose “Canada” to get content that specifically relates to Canadian business.

NAICS industry: Choose the NAICS code that most accurately reflects your business or business idea to retrieve articles that relate specifically to your industry.
