Associations

Trade associations often publish free industry newsletters that are excellent sources of information for your business plan. Such newsletters often have articles that cover in-depth topics on business management, manufacturing practices, how-tos, and current industry news.

 

Canadian Associations

  • Canadian Association of Recycling Industries | CARI functions are "...to promote the interests of the industry nationally and internationally; to work with governments on policies affecting recycling; to inform the public; to promote cooperation between member firms to solve common problems and to develop and provide cost cutting services for members."
  • Coast Waste Management Association | A membership association serving the solid waste management industry in coastal BC.
  • Electronic Recycling Association | Electronic Recycling Association is a not-for profit organization working with the public and private sector helping companies and the public deal with unwanted electronic items.
  • Recycling Council of British Columbia | A non-profit, membership driven organization that promotes the principles of zero waste through information services, the exchange of ideas and research. Get listed on their Recyclopedia
  • The Waste Equipment Technology Association (WASTEC) | WASTEC is the trade association representing companies which design, build, distribute, service and consult with respect to the equipment and technology systems that are used to collect, contain, transport, store, process, recycle, treat and dispose of the world's solid and hazardous wastes and recyclable materials.
  • Waste Management Association of BC (WMABC) | A group of businesses focused on the hauling, recycling and processing industry in BC.

  • Scrap News | A magazine on recycling topics, published by the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) in Washington, D.C..
  • Solid Waste & Recycling Magazine | Canada’s trade magazine on municipal and commercial waste collection, hauling, processing and disposal. 
  • Recycling Product News | This magazine “covers the latest industry news, product information and new equipment technologies for the solid waste and recycling industry."
  • Recycling Today | For more than 45 years, Recycling Today has been the industry’s most-relied-upon magazine, providing comprehensive market access combined with a reader-driven editorial product. Published 12 times per year.
  • Waste Age Magazine | A comprehensive website/print magazine resource for the North American waste management industry.

MarketWatch - Industry Analyzer | The Industries section contains current data on Dow Jones Industry Sectors. Aggregate data as well as company-specific data is available.

PriceWaterhouse Coopers Canada (PwC) | Global consultancy firm that produces reports on the state of various industries.

Firsthand | A free source of industry information. Use the Industry Profiles to research growing industries and best industries by major, and Company Rankings and Profiles to find news, company information, and industry-specific sample professions. Basic monthly membership is free and offers access to blogs, discussion forums, and job listings.
