For the latest news, current issues and popular opinions, try following one or more of these sources. In addition, interacting with the websites that provide this information through commenting and asking questions may also provide you with more information.

 

Associations

Trade associations often publish free industry newsletters that are excellent sources of information for your business plan. Such newsletters often have articles that cover in-depth topics on business management, manufacturing practices, how-tos, and current industry news.

British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists | Registered not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting and advancing the interests of its members and the kinesiologists of British Columbia.

British Columbia Personal Training Institute | Mentorship-based program dedicated to offering a scientific and practical approach to personal training through classroom and in-gym training.

Canadian Fitness and Lifestyle Research Institute | National research organization that monitors physical activity and sport participation among Canadians promotes healthy, active lifestyles.

Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology | National voluntary organization that translates advances in exercise science research into the promotion of fitness, performance and health outcomes for Canadians. 

Certified Professional Trainers Network (CPTN) | A member-driven organization for fitness trainers in Canada. Members must pass an exam to be certified. 

Fitness Industry Council of Canada | Not-for-profit trade organization that represents the voice of fitness facility operators across Canada. 

Health & Fitness Society of BC | Non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the benefits of physical activity and other lifestyle behaviours for British Columbians.

IDEA Health & Fitness Association | Worldwide organization offering industry research, education and leadership.

National Fitness Leadership Association of Canada | Partnership of not-for-profit organizations dedicated to the advancement of exercise accreditation and leadership.

 

Magazines & Trade Journals

Trade associations often publish free industry newsletters that are excellent sources of information for business planning. Such newsletters often have articles that cover in-depth topics on business management, manufacturing practices, how-tos, and current industry news.

Fitness Trainer Magazine | Digital business-to-business magazine serving personal trainers and fitness consumers. Published 6 times per year.

IMPACT Magazine | Magazine dedicated to educating readers on health, fitness, and sports. Published every other month.

STRONG Fitness Magazine | Mission is to motivate, educate and empower women to achieve healthy and fit lifestyles. Published 6 times per year.

 

Consultant & Other Websites

MarketWatch - Industry Analyzer | The Industries section contains current data on Dow Jones Industry Sectors. Aggregate data as well as company-specific data is available.

Firsthand | A free source of industry information. Use the Industry Profiles to research growing industries and best industries by major, and Company Rankings and Profiles to find news, company information, and industry-specific sample professions. Basic monthly membership is free and offers access to blogs, discussion forums, and job listings.

Skilled Immigrant InfoCentre | This free resource created by the Vancouver Public Library is an online and in-person resource that helps newcomers to Canada find information to get a job, explore different careers or start a business.
