The Irving K. Barber Learning Centre

The Irving K. Barber Learning Centre (IKBLC) at the University of British Columbia is a major hub for learning, research, and community engagement. Opened in 2008, the Centre blends historic elements of UBC’s original 1925 Main Library with 250,000 square feet of new and renovated space designed to support interdisciplinary study.

The Learning Centre is home to key UBC Library units, including the Chapman Learning Commons, the Music, Art & Architecture Library, and the Community Engagement & Partnerships team. These groups support student learning, innovative research, and public-facing programming across the province.

Although the Small Business Accelerator (SBA) does not provide in-person services within the building, our work is deeply connected to IKBLC’s mission. In 2009, librarians from the Centre visited communities across British Columbia to hear directly from entrepreneurs and local service providers about their business-research needs. These conversations directly shaped the SBA’s design and continue to influence our approach today. Contact Us form here.
