Industry News

In this section we have gathered some of the most popular information sources, such as trade journals, magazines, blogs, and association websites. Industry information is always changing. For the latest news, current issues and popular opinions, try following one or more of these sources. In addition, interacting with the websites that provide this information through commenting and asking questions may also provide you with more information.

 

Associations

Trade associations often publish free industry newsletters that are excellent sources of information for your business plan. Such newsletters often have articles that cover in-depth topics on business management, manufacturing practices, how-tos, and current industry news.

Canadian Associations

Alberta Continuing Care Association (ACCA) | ACCA is a non-profit, voluntary organization that provides care services for 13,000 long term care and designated support living individuals in Alberta. Check out ACCA Publications & Third Party Resources.

BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) | BCCPA represents members who are responsible for more than one-third or all residential seniors' care beds across British Columbia. Take a look at the Third Party Resources about Continuing Care in BC page.

BC Seniors Living Association (BCSLA) | BCSLA’s mission is to provide leadership and networking opportunities for all members who are committed to innovation, resident choice, and excellence.

Canadian Association of Self Employed Registered Nurses | The Canadian Association of Self-Employed Registered Nurses (CASE RNs) seeks to build on the incredible talent of self-employed nurses, operating a business or providing nursing services outside the traditional public health care system.

Canadian Association for Long Term Care | CALTC is a national organization comprised of provincial associations and long term care providers who are dedicated to providing quality care to Canada’s most vulnerable residents. The Research and Publications section of the site provides information on statistics, reports and other resources.

Canadian Home Care Association (CHCA) | CHCA is the national voice of home care in Canada. It promotes excellence in home care through leadership, awareness and knowledge to shape strategic directions.

Community Health Nurses of Canada (CHNC) | CNHC is an associate member of the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA). It provides a forum for community health nurses across Canada to share issues of mutual concern and to communicate through meetings and national publications

Health Association of Nova Scotia | Not-for-profit membership driven organization that represents long-term care facilities in the province. Start with the Association & Annual Reports.

Long Term & Continuing Care Association of Manitoba (LTCAM) | LTCAM is a not-for-profit corporation with more than 150 members, representing more than 10,000 residents/clients and staff.

New Brunswick Association of Nursing Homes (NBANH) | NBANH is comprised of 72 licensed nursing homes in New Brunswick. Its members provide care to 4,800 residents and 7,000 employees in the province. The Publications page contains Association Reports and Newsletters.

Ontario Long Term Care Association (OLTCA) | OLTCA is the largest association of long-term care providers in Canada representing 70% of Ontario’s long-term care homes.

Better Business Bureau (BBB) | BBB provides a number of Industry Outlooks under their Business Resources page. Review the Canadian report on the home care industry outlook for 2022 and beyond.

International Associations

American Association for Homecare | The American Association for Homecare (AAHomecare) works to strengthen access to care for the millions of Americans who require medical care in their homes.

Home Care Association of America (HCAOA) | A leading trade organization representing home care agencies and their suppliers across the country, the Home Care Association of America (HCAOA) strives to provide member agencies with practical resources to enhance operations, margins, and improve training and quality within our industry. 

International Home Care Nurses Organization (IHCNO) | IHCNO seeks to advance home care nursing around the world by providing a platform where nurses can support and learn from one another. Take a look at the Resources and Research sections of this site.

National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC) | An American non-profit organization, NAHC represents the nation’s 33,000 home care and hospice organizations.

National Nurses in Business Association (NNBA) | An American association for nurse entrepreneurs, and is a springboard for nurses transitioning from traditional nursing to business ownership, and self-employment.

 

Magazines & Trade Journals

Trade associations often publish free industry newsletters that are excellent sources of information for business planning. Such newsletters often have articles that cover in-depth topics on business management, manufacturing practices, how-tos, and current industry news.

Canadian Nurse | Published by the Canadian Nurses Association, Canadian Nurse is an online journal devoted to nursing. New content is posted weekly and is conveniently sorted by category.

Evidence-Based Nursing | This journal publishes critical commentaries and summaries of the most valid research in nursing, from other international healthcare journals. Some content is free while. Take advantage of the search function and Topic Index.

HomeCare Magazine | In an increasingly challenging marketplace HomeCare Magazine publishes industry-specific information from experts in the field, stories about business management best practices, industry leading firms, new products, regulatory matters and industry news.

Today's Caregiver | Provides information, support, and guidance for family caregivers. This magazine’s last publication was Fall 2021 but previous publications are still available to view.

Today's Geriatric Medicine | News and insight aimed at professionals in geriatric care. Published 4 times per year.

Lippincott Nursing Center | Lippincott compiles a list of nursing journals and publications. To start, take a look at the available journals here. While some articles are free to view they do require the user to sign up.

 

Consultant & Other Websites

MarketWatch - Industry Analyzer | The Industries section contains current data on Dow Jones Industry Sectors. Aggregate data as well as company-specific data is available.

PriceWaterhouse Coopers Canada (PwC) | Global consultancy firm that produces reports on the state of various industries.

Firsthand | A free source of industry information. Use the Industry Profiles to research growing industries and best industries by major, and Company Rankings and Profiles to find news, company information, and industry-specific sample professions. Basic monthly membership is free and offers access to blogs, discussion forums, and job listings.

Skilled Immigrant InfoCentre | This free resource created by the Vancouver Public Library is an online and in-person resource that helps newcomers to Canada find information to get a job, explore different careers or start a business.

 

Blogs Forums 

Home Care Heroes Blog | A blog from Ankota, a provider of software solutions for home care, the blog covers numerous topics ranging from starting a home care agency to recruiting, and tips for home care providers. Use the Categories tab to narrow in on topics relevant to you.

National Nurses in Business Association (NNBA) | An American association for nurse entrepreneurs, and is a springboard for nurses transitioning from traditional nursing to business ownership, and self-employment. Take a look at their blog section for nurse entrepreneur interviews and tips.

Nurse Next Door Franchise Blog | Nurse Next Door is a franchise across the United States and Canada providing personalized home health care. The site also looks at market information and start-up costs.

NursePreneur Blog | A one-stop resource to build your nurse entrepreneur network and watch your business thrive.

Right at Home | A home health care franchise with a mission to improve the quality of life for those under their care. Their Senior Home Care Blog is updated about once a month with information related to home care.

 

Discussion Forums 

allnurses | Established in 1997 allnurses provides nurses and students a place to find support, learn, and share stories. You can search by navigating to their Nurse Specialties section and also take a look at the Home Health Nursing subcategory.

r/nursing | This subreddit is a place to discuss the topics of concern to the nurses of reddit. Use the search bar to find topics related to your interests in home health care.
